Harbor For Small Boats

Bailey’s Bay is located on the northeast coast of Bermuda, 5.3 miles northeast of Hamilton and 3.4 miles southeast of St. George. It is a small beach with tan sand mostly visited by local Bermudans. Though small, it is hardly ever crowded. Bailey’s Bay Beach Bermuda also serves as a harbor for small boats. The calm clear water makes for great swimming. There are no public restrooms at this beach, nor are there lifeguards stationed so families with children may wish to consider a different beach.

Nearby attractions include Coney Island Park, the Blue Hole Park, and the Crystal Caves. Coney Island Park is a nature sanctuary and wildlife reserve as is Blue Hole Park. Blue Hole Park has an impressive mangrove pond with lots of fish in it. This namesake of the park is fringed by forest and crevices and rocks on one side. Birds can be watched from an observation tower. The Crystal Caves are one of the most famous and largest caves on the island. It is roughly 120 feet below ground and has dramatic formations of stalactites and stalagmites to view. The Crystal Caves are open daily from nine a.m. to five p.m.

There are also two art galleries within walking distance of Bailey’s Bay, Otto Trott Art Studio and Evans, Amy, and Vaughan. Otto Trott was born and raised in Bermuda and is known for paintings of Bermuda, its people, and the sea surrounding it. Historical sites a mile away from Bailey’s Bay include Ferry Island Fort and Martello Tower.

Bermuda’s oldest dive bar, the Swizzle Inn, is located at Bailey’s Bay having opened in 1932 in a 17th century roadhouse. This bar is the original home of the famous Bermuda Rum Swizzle cocktail which is made with two kinds of rum, pineapple and orange juice, Angustora bitters, and a Bermudan sweetener called falernum. The Swizzle Inn serves food as well, with delicious burgers, fish sandwiches, and other bar type food. Additional restaurants less than a mile from Bailey’s Bay include Tony’s Fine Foods, Bailey’s Bay Ice Cream Parlour, the Pizza House Restaurant, and Buzz n’Go Crawl Hill.

The closest hotel to Bailey’s Bay Beach Bermuda is the Grotto Bay Beach Resort, located just over half a mile away. The Grotto Bay Beach Resort is a good-sized resort with 201 guestrooms. It is situated on 21 acres with its own private beaches. Grotto Bay Beach Resort offers live entertainment nightly.
